May 4, 2023
A Message From The Supervisor:This week, we kicked off Asian Pacific American Heritage Month! In the United States, the month of May each year is celebrated as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. This annual celebration came about in 1978 when President Jimmy Carter signed into law a Joint Resolution of the Congress of the United States designating the month of May for the celebration of Asian and Pacific Islanders culture and heritage. I invite you to join me in celebration of our city, state and nation's rich APA culture.
We are hosting "CHOW FUN" to celebrate APA Heritage Month and Small Business Week in the Excelsior! From May 13 through May 20, CHOW FUN will feature an Asian dine-around to bring together foodies and families for some delicious food and fun! We believe that culture and cuisine are essential elements of a vibrant, thriving community. Experiences like these will affirm and celebrate our heritage, and will help us connect with San Francisco's larger multi-cultural community. We will start with a
Community Kick Off at the Excelsior Library on Saturday, May 13 at 11AM. Click HERE to learn more.
In addition, I want to take the time to highlight International Worker’s Day (also known as May Day) which was held on May 1st, 2023. This year, I joined the United Educators of San Francisco who are currently engaged in negotiations for a living wage for educators.
May the 4th be with you!

Community hub in Excelsior District and continuation of tablet classes in Excelsior District
The Community Youth Center now has a permanent community hub within Excelsior District! The location of the new hub is 35 San Juan Avenue, right next to Excelsior Action Group (many thanks for temporarily sharing the office space for us as we are establishing the community hub!). Our community hubs offers a variety of services, including translation, referrals, community workshops, and more!
Speaking of workshops, our tablet classes, which we have been partnering with the San Francisco Public Library, will now be consolidated into our community hubs!
The flyers above are for the tablet classes; the classes will be instructed in Chinese for the first three Tuesday of each month, and the class on the 4th Tuesday of the month will be instructed in English.
