Geneva Powerhouse Update
This week we were able to tour the newly completed Geneva Powerhouse. This dynamic space will become a cultural and arts hub for the entire District.
Due to COVID-19 we are prohibited from having a very large ribbon cutting, but we will make sure to have a virtual or small ceremony to celebrate this huge win for the community.
More details to come soon..... |
This upcoming Wednesday from 6:00pm - 7:00pm we will be convening the Vehicle Triage Center Working Group to discuss the safe parking program located at Balboa Upper Yards. We will hear updates from the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, Urban Alchemy, learn pressing needs from the site provider and hear questions from the Working Group as well as the community.

Update Regarding Crocker Amazon Parking Lot Listed as a Potential Safe Site
Earlier this week at the request of the Board of Supervisors, the Department of Real Estate shared a list of public spaces that could be utilized as potential Safe Sites to house the homeless during the COVID-19 crisis. This was a broad list that included public parks. The press took this list and published it.
In order for a site to move forward as a Safe Site there would have to be outreach, support from the Supervisor and an extensive community process. While I am in support of the goal of Safe Sites, I want to be clear that I DO NOT support a site at Crocker Amazon’s parking lot. This site needs to remain open to ensure residents can utilize our parks and to assist families as summer camp takes place.
In the end these are simply a list of “potential sites” and would have to be supported by the community and the district Supervisor. There will be no process and nothing will move forward on this site. I DO NOT SUPPORT a SITE at this location.

Board of Supervisors Rejects Police Commission Nominations
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday rejected the nomination of Nancy Tung by a 10-1 vote, with many saying the prosecutor did not possess a desired track record of advocacy or action around police reform. Attorney Geoffrey Gordon-Creed withdrew his candidacy for the police watchdog group earlier in the day, correctly predicting that he too wouldn’t win a majority of the votes.
As we enter into policy changes and conversations surrounding reimagining policing we hope to have a strong Police Commission that can help lead these efforts.
