I am so excited about the different events happening this Summer in the Richmond! We had our first Night Market last month, and our next on will be one July 20, 2024! We are also having film festivals in partnership with Cinema SF and the Balboa Theatre. These festivals are funded, in part, by the Golden Gate Park Community Benefit Fund to reinvest in the Richmond and bring family-friendly activities to the neighborhood. The first festival is coming up this weekend, running from Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 14.
Stephen Chow Film Festival
In partnership with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco, we are bringing a celebration of the cinematic genius of Hong Kong director Stephen Chow to the Balboa Theatre. We will have a selection of seven of his most iconic films shown over three days. All films will be presented in Cantonese with English subtitles.
We will have complimentary tickets for the community available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can pick up your ticket at local merchants and community partners, or you can purchase individual tickets or a film fest pass at the Balboa Theater. Visit balboamovies.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
I was amazed by all the wonderful innovation and creativity from the kids who participated in this year's YMCA Thingamajig Innovation Conference. Thingamajig® is a daylong celebration where kids take part in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) learning, exploration, and healthy competition.
Calligraphy Class for Seniors
Last week, I stopped by the Self Help for the Elderly's Jackie Chan Center for a calligraphy class they were offering to their seniors. Calligraphy is such a beautiful art form, and I loved seeing the seniors engaged and excited about learning the art.
