On election day, Congresswoman Jackie Speier joined us for our Board Meeting as we recognized her nearly 40 years of public service as an elected official representing San Francisco and the Bay Area and her pending retirement from the US House of Representatives. I was honored to introduce a resolution commending her for her service and naming November 8, 2022 Jackie Speier day in San Francisco. Congresswoman Speier’s fierce advocacy and fearlessness are tremendous and I am proud to call her my mentor and friend. Congresswoman Speier addressed the board and closed out her remarks with a call to action to all of us to not “dismiss the power you have, use it to serve the people of San Francisco.” I am committed to doing just that.
Health Updates & Resources
COVID-19
According to SFDPH, COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations and cases have slightly increased over the past few weeks. SFDPH continues to focus efforts on improving vaccination/booster rates given that this is the best way for individuals to protect themselves from the most severe health impacts of COVID-19, especially improving rates of the bivalent vaccine booster.
Protect yourself and those around you from new variants. Vaccines open to everyone 6 months and older, boosters to everyone 5 years and up.
SFDPH has built a robust infrastructure for vaccination efforts. The Covid Information Warmline (628-652-2700) can help reach and schedule vulnerable individuals for vaccination appointments.
District Updates
Mayor Breed Question Time
Thank you to everyone who submitted a question for the Mayor’s appearance before the board. We received so many responses from all across the Richmond, with questions ranging from public safety to traffic safety and slow streets, but the topic that received the most responses was about housing and services for the unhoused. We reviewed the questions and found that the question from our neighbor, James best captured the overall sentiment of the questions received. You can watch my conversation with Mayor Breed and listen to her response to James’ question here.
Thanksgiving
One of my favorite parts of celebrating Thanksgiving is giving back to our community. This past Thursday, I joined many neighbors and Captain Canning to help distribute Thanksgiving meals at Self Help for the Elderly's Jackie Chan Senior Center and helped serve meals donated by the team at K Elements.
I also got a chance to stop by our Richmond District Fire Stations and the Richmond District Police Station to drop off some delicious pies to the first responders working on Thanksgiving.
Stow Lake and Spreckels Lake Pathways
We received an update from the Department of Parks and Recreation about the renovation project for the Stow Lake and Spreckles Lake perimeter pathways. The Stow Lake pathway and parking lot project is anticipated to start before the end of the year and is projected to be completed in Summer 2023. The Spreckles Lake project is anticipated to start by the end of the year, but they do not have an projected completion date. I know these pathways are used by many of you and are in need of repair, we will continue to follow-up with Rec and Park to ensure the projects are prioritized and give you more updates when we have them.
