Just last night, a vehicle crashed into the CVS located at 32nd and Clement, and the store was burglarized. Not too long ago, a large group of dirt bike riders recklessly drove through Lake Street. Last summer, a murder occurred in the Richmond Market.
Last Wednesday, I presided over a hearing at the Budget and Finance Committee and approved the San Francisco Police Department's request to accept a $15 million state grant to tackle retail theft. As a result, the Police Department will be receiving 400 Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) to help investigate and prevent crimes citywide. The Board of Supervisors also adopted the policy to allow the Police Department to use this surveillance technology without infringing on people's privacy rights.
Now, with this additional tool available to our Police Department, I will be asking the Mayor and her Police Department to make sure the Richmond gets our fair share when they deploy this tool.
I will continue working closely with Captain Chris Canning of our Richmond District Police Station, providing him our and constituent feedback, and identifying potential locations, such as along Neighborhood Commercial Corridors, near grocery markets, along Lake Street, at the intersection of the Richmond Market, and other hotspots as determined by public safety data, for strategic placement and deployment.
Your feedback is always welcome. I will continue to advocate for the Richmond, we always deserve better.
