Dear Neighbors and Community,
Happy New Year!
We are excited about all of the work ahead over the next year. This will be a year of fulfilling more promises and cementing District 10’s place in history, as the district that provides affordable housing, and creates jobs and careers for thousands of people each year.
With the Power Station affordable housing under construction as we speak, Hope SF revitalization and new housing being completed, and the upcoming opportunities in the Candlestick community, we are set to play our role in addressing homelessness and poverty. We will have a major focus on continuing to build affordable housing, addressing the unhoused crisis, workforce alignment work, violence prevention, keeping the city safe, language access, the African American Arts and Cultural District, continued improvement of our parks (including breaking ground on Jackson Park) and reparations.
Below are our remaining priorities (not in any particular order) over the next two years:
- Reparations Funding
- Building Affordable Housing and housing at Pier 70, Power Station, Shipyard, and Candlestick
- Workforce Alignment Work
- Violence Prevention Work
- Language Access funding
- Cultural District Restructuring
- Inspector General’s Office Funding
- Reduction in Homicides and Violent Crime
Our office developed a comprehensive and inclusive District 10 Safety Plan that brought together community, service providers, public defender’s office, district attorney’s office, other city departments and law enforcement to address homicides and violent crimes in District 10 as part of our Vision Zero Plan to reduce Homicides and Violent Crimes. Last year we had the lowest total of homicide deaths in District 10 (8 total) within the last several decades. Bringing everyone together and having a response to prevent retaliation has played a major role in the reductions in violence within the district.
In addition, the focus on employment resources provided for trainings in District 10 public housing and low income communities, and the work to provide basic skills for folks who have been formerly incarcerated, has provided opportunities that help people make better decisions. All of this attributes to increasing safety in our neighborhoods in D10, but also across the entire city. We are looking forward to continuing to represent the residents in the most resilient and innovative district in San Francisco. The work that we all do together leads to the benefit of the entire City and County of San Francisco. We will make sure that our work improves outcomes for the most vulnerable and in return benefits our beautiful city from corner to corner.
As of January 27, 2025 I have been assigned as the Rules Committee Chair and a member of the Budget & Appropriations Committee.
- Rules Committee meets weekly on Monday's @ 10am.
- Budget & Appropriations meets Wednesdays @ 1:30pm between February 1st and August 1st annually.

It is with great concern and disappointment that we acknowledge the sudden impending closure of the remaining two Walgreens locations in District 10 at 5300 3rd Street and 1189 Potrero Avenue, bringing the total number of store closures in San Francisco to 12. These stores have long been a vital resource for our community, providing essential medications, household goods, and personal care items to residents, including many seniors and families with limited means.
We understand the frustration and hardship these closures bring and we call on the Walgreens CEO, leadership, and shareholders to reevaluate and extend their closing timeline so that residents have ample time to prepare to find alternatives. --Read more here.
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, our office was alerted about a potential ICE raid targeting individuals on the 29 bus. We immediately contacted multiple agencies to verify the situation. At this time, we have not been able to confirm that the raid occurred.
We are closely monitoring this issue and are here to support the community. If you have concerns or firsthand information, please contact our office at Waltonstaff@sfgov.org. Let’s stand together to protect everyone’s rights in our community.

As we gear up for Black History Month, I would like to extend an invite to our annual Black History Month Art Gallery in our office. Details are below-

As always, if you have any questions or matters concerning District 10, please email my office at waltonstaff@sfgov.org.
Wishing you a warm and happy holiday season,

SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL TRANSPORTATION AGENCY
“Speed Safety Cameras: Enhancing Safety in Our Neighborhoods
Exciting news! San Francisco is taking a significant step toward safer streets with the introduction of speed safety cameras. These cameras will enforce the posted speed limit and help prevent traffic-related fatalities, creating safer and more livable communities for everyone.
Here’s what you need to know:
Timeline: Cameras will be installed throughout January and February, with testing and activation scheduled for March 2025.
How They Help: By encouraging drivers to slow down, these cameras will make high-traffic and high-risk areas safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers.
Community Impact: This initiative focuses on protecting our most vulnerable road users while promoting equitable safety measures across the city.
If you have questions or would like to learn more about the program, visit SFMTA.com/SpeedCameras. Let’s work together to make San Francisco’s streets safer for all residents and visitors.”

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTIONS
Looking Ahead to 2025:
Join Our Language Access Advisory Committee
While no elections are currently scheduled for 2025, our outreach efforts remain active and focused. This year presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections with our outreach partners, expand voter education initiatives, and prepare for the 2026 elections.
On that note, we invite you to join the Language Accessibility Advisory Committee (LAAC) and play a role in enhancing voting access for limited-English and non-English-speaking residents in San Francisco.
Our first meeting of 2025 will take place on February 5, 2 PM–3:30 PM. During this meeting, we’ll reflect on last year’s outreach and share updates on the Language Access Ordinance, including the certification of Vietnamese as a required city language. Sign up to become a member of the LAAC at https://sfelections.org/tools/forms/laac.html and help us ensure that language is never a barrier to participating in elections in San Francisco :
